Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do you differ from a retail/storefront pharmacist?

Dr. Bennett is residency-trained, which is typically not a requirement for retail pharmacists (pharmacists that dispense medications). In his current role professional role, Dr. Bennett completes in-depth medication reviews, review of laboratory findings, and uses of evidence-based recommendations to optimize patient health outcomes. He typically has 30-minute sessions with patients rather than five minute consultations regarding a new medication. In addition, Dr. Bennett has been certified through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) in Ambulatory Care since 2022.

What is the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) Difference?

Board certification through BPS is recognized as the gold standard for determining which pharmacists are qualified to contribute at advanced practice levels. With BPS specialty-trained pharmacists as part of the collaborative care team, enhanced patient satisfaction has been documented with fewer complications in drug treatment, improved laboratory monitoring, reductions in unnecessary medications, and shorter hospital stays, resulting in lower treatment costs. Pharmacists with these certifications have advanced knowledge and experience to optimize therapy for ambulatory patients who administer medications themselves or with the assistance of a caregiver.

Currently, there are more than 6,360 BPS Board-Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacists (BCACP) in the United States. Out of the 6360 nationwide, only 129 of them reside in Georgia and only 4 are registered in Henry County.
